Jake Trbojevic is renowned as one of the fiercest defenders in the NRL.
His low, hard tackling technique is a throwback to a different time in rugby league.
A style which has been squeezed out of a modern game dominated by wrestle and the notion of controlling the ruck.
Sea Eagles fans frequently see Trbojevic streaming down field from a kick off and launching himself like a missile into the ribs of opposition forwards returning the ball.
The bone-rattling contact is something the Test and Origin forward prides himself on.
Now, it has been revealed how Trbojevic uses his smaller teammates as decoys in order to blindside bigger opponents.
Speaking on the Refuse to Lose podcast, Tom Trbojevic lifted the lid on his brother's cheeky schemes, recalling a game he used teammate Cameron Cullen as bait.
"We were playing Souths one day, they scored a try and we were kicking off," Tom recalled.
"It was George or Tom [Burgess] that we were kicking it to. Jake is saying, Cullo [Cullen] come and stand next to me."
Cullen, who is just 170cm, was understandably hesitant about tackling a 130 kilo Burgess brother at full pace.
"Cullo is like mate I'm not standing there, let me go over here so he doesn't run at me," Tom continues.
"Jake is like no, no! Stand here. You'll be fine."
Playing in his first game for the club, Cullen decided to follow the orders of one of Manly's biggest stars despite the obvious mis-match with Burgess.
"We kicked off and Cullo is looking up going oh no! This bloke is running straight at me," says Tom.
"All of a sudden Jake flies in from the side and chopped him.
"It was human bait."
Despite a take no prisoners mentality, Jake Trbojevic also has a lot finesse to his game and is continually used as a ball-playing forward.
On the podcast he recalls the one time he was switched into the halves.
"Last year there was one game, I think our centre got injured. Walks [Dylan Walker] was playing five-eighth. They put Walks to centre, they told me to move to the halves and I was cheering," said Jake.
"My one chance I thought, I would have been putting kicks in, everything, I would have been loving it.
"I was there for three minutes and we didn't have the ball and then something happened, and I got moved back to lock and I was filthy."
In Manly's last game this season, before the competition was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Trbojevic was again pushed into an unfamiliar role.
With scores locked at 8-all against the Roosters at Leichhardt Oval, Jake was moved to hooker.
"Even the last game there was a period there before we kicked the field goal where they came on and said Jake, you're at hooker because Danny hurt himself," said Tom Trbojevic.
"You should have seen Jake absolutely shit himself!
"Jake said I'm not going back to hooker now, I've got to throw that pass back to Cherry, I'm not doing that."
Jake remembers the panic.
"It's about to go to golden point and they want me to throw a bullet pass to the half. I'll get sprayed if it's terrible," he said.
"Thank god Crokes [Lachlan Croker] ran in and did the passing.
"He nailed it to, which was great."
