Calvin Kiing Crooks recently opened up about his experience on The Circle season 3, including his game strategy and his connection with castmate Keisha “Kai” Ghost. When the game began, Calvin was off to a great start. He was not short of any charisma or enthusiasm right from the beginning and was ranked favorably.
During his introduction, Calvin claimed his strategy was to use his charm to make any ladies swoon and to make friendships with the men in the competition. Calvin played the game with precision, being sure to get to know other players as well as trying to eliminate possible catfishes without beating around the bush. His alliance strategy seemed to work until players Isabella and Ashley were ranked as influencers, and Calvin was blocked.
While some believe he was “dominating chats” as part of his game strategy, Calvin told Parade, “I don’t like dominating chats, but I do have a lot to say.” Calvin explained that he took opportunities to speak more than once when other players did not. “I was answering a couple more people a bit quicker than others. But that is my personality.” Calvin felt it would be unwise not to participate in chats frequently because “at the end of the day, these are the people who are going to help you get that 100 grand.” Calvin made connections with co-stars Nick and Daniel quickly and invited them to a group chat known as the “Wolf Pack,” but he said the move was not strategic. He added that Daniel may win The Circle, saying Daniel might be able to “fly under the radar straight to the finals," and that he started the group chat with the two because he appreciated their sense of humor.
Kai and Calvin also made a strong connection within the first four episodes of The Circle, and his interactions with her seemed to be part of his plan to “flirt with all the ladies” to win the competition. Calvin claimed that there was no strategy involved in his relationship with Kai, saying, “There was something actually real. She was seeing for me and I was seeing for her.” Kai and Calvin both played the game similarly, having no-nonsense attitudes about the competition and both intending to eliminate catfishes at every opportunity. Calvin and Kai both eliminated one Michelle clone, but Calvin made a misstep when it came to the elimination of Orange Michelle, who turned out to be the real Michelle Rider. Calvin maintained that he truly believed Orange Michelle was fake, saying, “I’m a mama’s boy; I don’t want people to think that I’m out here gunning for Michelle or whatever the case may be.” He explained that he and Michelle currently have a “great relationship” and that they speak regularly. Calvin said that the two support each other on social media and added that “there are no hard feelings.”
While Calvin may have seemed like he would be all about strategy in his connections with others on The Circle, his relationships with his fellow contestants actually seemed to be one of the more genuine aspects of a social media competition in catfish-infested waters. After being blocked, Calvin chose to help out those he had made connections with rather than confront either of the influencers responsible for sending him home. His choice to visit Kai, to grant Nick the popularity award and maintain his relationship with Michelle on social media seems to prove that his support for his friends on the show as well as a possible romance with Kai go beyond the extent of his time competing.
The Circle streams Wednesdays on Netflix.
