The only significant injuries that Shanahan mentioned after the game were to defensive end Clelin Ferrell and safety Tayler Hawkins. While the coach suggested that Ferrell's injury might potentially lead to him missing the team's playoff game in two weeks, the starting defensive end was optimistic.
"He said he left the game largely as a precaution," wrote Matt Barrows of The Athletic via social media. "He said he's optimistic about playing in two weeks. He's walking around without a limp in the 49ers locker room."
Hawkins, recently elevated from the practice squad, suffered a wrist injury late in the game.
With the conclusion of the 2023 regular season, the 49ers are now shifting their focus to the playoffs. As the top-seeded NFC squad, they await the weakest-seeded winner from the Wild Card Round, potentially the Los Angeles Rams or three other teams. Utilizing the extra week for preparation, the 49ers will keep a watchful eye on that first round of action.
When asked about the scouting plan for the first round of the playoffs, Shanahan said, "Yeah, we'll dabble in it all. We've got to do something with that stuff, or we'll go crazy as coaches, but hopefully, we'll find out by Sunday. It's starting to hit me that I don't think we can officially find out until maybe Monday because I know there's Monday night games, so that'll be a little bit different. Haven't gone through that. So we'll definitely plan for all the possibilities and be halfway in on a bunch, and as soon as we get told, then we'll be 100 percent in."Shanahan noted that the 49ers have tried to be in a playoff mindset, even heading into a pretty meaningless Week 18 game for the team. San Francisco wants to enter the postseason with the right mentality.
"That's really what we talked about all week, having that playoff mindset, knowing the level that we have to play at coming in a couple of weeks," Shanahan stated. "And that's why it was so important for us to get a lot out of this week. We had to practice that way. We talked about it a lot last night at our team meeting and set the schedule for the week. And guys are going to have tomorrow off, but we'll come here Tuesday, treat it like a day after game on Tuesday, and get going."
The 49ers will practice twice this week, with the coach emphasizing that they will "practice real hard" during those sessions. Regarding the loss to McVay and the Rams, Shanahan acknowledged that he probably won't lose any sleep over it. Nonetheless, any defeat is somewhat frustrating, even in a game that the 49ers treated like a glorified preseason contest.
"It's annoying to lose to everybody," Shanahan expressed. "It's a little bit more when it's your rivals or when it's someone in your division. It's always a little bit more when you know people, but it's not just him (McVay). There's a bunch of people on the staff I know, so they all annoy me."
The coach said that last part with a smile on his face. When asked if there is any benefit to playing the Rams in Week 18, a team the 49ers might see in a couple of weeks, Shanahan responded, "I don't think so."
Report it.

NFL Playoff Picture: Who will the San Francisco 49ers play in their first playoff game?
By Chris Wilson

We made a model to determine the odds for every potential San Francisco 49ers playoff opponent. As the NFL regular season comes to a close today, the final pieces of the NFL playoff picture are falling into place. The San Francisco 49ers have already secured the top seed in the NFC, but their path to the Super Bowl is far from clear, as one of nine potential teams will travel to Levi's Stadium to face the Niners in the home team's first playoff game. The Niners plan to rest a number of their starters today, similar to their opponent–the Los Angeles Rams–who have already secured a wild-card spot. On its face, this afternoon's game appears to hold little meaning; However, it will play a pivotal role in shaping the now-blurry NFC playoff picture, as
Kyle Shanahan discusses Joe Flacco, QB the 49ers tried 'hard' to sign in 2021

While everyone assumes that the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens are on a collision course to play in Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, there is growing excitement in Cleveland surrounding the playoff-bound Browns, who have won four straight games. Much of their recent success is attributed to quarterback Joe Flacco's impressive play. Obviously, Kyle Shanahan hasn't watched a lot of Flacco's performances this season, as the 49ers haven't had to prepare for the Browns. The head coach has done his homework on the veteran quarterback in the past, though. Flacco visited with the 49ers during the 2021 offseason but eventually signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, who later traded him
49ers' new-look secondary: Kyle Shanahan discusses newcomers Jason Verrett and Logan Ryan

The San Francisco 49ers will have at least one new face in their starting secondary when they face the Washington Commanders on Sunday. The 49ers have been bitten by the injury bug in recent weeks and will be without one of their starting safeties. They may also be without one of their cornerbacks. On Friday, Greg Papa sat down with 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan in this week's episode of "49ers Game Plan" on NBC Sports Bay Area. They discussed some of the injuries and who might play, particularly in the defensive backfield. Cornerback Ambry Thomas is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. If he is unable to play, we could see Jason Verrett play in his place. Verrett played some snaps on Monday night when Thomas left the game. The 49ers had planned to work Verrett in
49ers' Kyle Shanahan discusses the "chain reaction" of resting players in Sunday's regular season finale

After losing on the road, in the NFC Championship Game, the past two seasons, the San Francisco 49ers worked hard to earn the top seed in the NFC. In doing so, they were awarded home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, and a first-round bye, which means they should be more rested than their NFC opponents. It also means they only have to play two games to get to the Super Bowl, instead of three. But last week, when the 49ers clinched the number-one seed before the final week of the regular season, it essentially gave them a two-week bye. That meant head coach Kyle Shanahan could rest some of his players during the finale against the Los Angeles Rams, should he decide to do so. But that opportunity came with another set of questions, namely, is there such a thing as too
