Diversionary Tactic, II - The SandPaper

To the Editor:

In a letter last week, a writer suggested that a previous letter criticizing former President Trump was a diversionary tactic to take the spotlight off of our current president’s weaknesses.

Let’s talk about diversionary tactics! This week exposed a frightening example. Consider the recent news regarding the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Gen. Mike Milley, our nation’s highest-ranking military officer. He was so concerned about the possibility of Trump starting a war with China when it looked like he was losing the election that Milley called his Chinese counterpart to assure him that the U.S. was not about to attack China and that the U.S., despite appearances on Jan. 6, remained a stable country. I would suppose that Gen. Milley was worried as he witnessed Trump’s increasingly desperate attempts to unwind the election, and saw how far he would go when he threw even his vice president to the crowd. Willingness to void an election by starting hostilities with a major rival – now that’s what I call a diversionary tactic.

And don’t call this fake news. Gen. Milley would deny the story if it was. I don’t think anyone can call into question the general’s integrity – except maybe Trump, who blasted that the general is a “dumbass” and should be tried for treason.

If you have trouble believing in our political class, one place to look to is to our leaders in the Department of Defense, who take nonpartisanship and their responsibilities to our nation with the faithfulness and gravity they deserve.
