I must admit that after reading and re-reading the Springfield Republican editorial on defunding the police, “Democrats must change crime talk,” June 27, page C4, I was convinced that the newspaper finally decided to create some distance from the outer orbit thinking of progressives. “No thinking Democrat should ever again utter the words ‘defund the police’. Ever.”
But, lo and behold, the current administration this week, in concert with the mainstream media in a carefully disguised narrative, blames the Republicans for the defunding the police, continuing violence in this country and being the de facto force behind the destruction of America.
Very clever column piece indeed, I should have read between the lines. I suspect that in the coming weeks/months the newspaper will continue to shift the blame for the lack of police reform and continuing lawlessness on those dastardly Republicans.
Artful columns like the one on the June 27, do not serve much public good when they are really disguised to foment a destructive narrative.
