Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia can copy her Manchester United counterpart Ed Woodward's tactic while negotiating for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz because of her incredibly strong hand.
Woodward has developed a notorious reputation of trying to drive down a price tag by playing the long-game.
The United executive vice-chairman is using the stance in hope that Borussia Dortmund will lower their £108million valuation of Jadon Sancho.
However, Dortmund are under no pressure to sell their prized winger and do not need to pander to the Red Devils' requests.
In contrast, Granovskaia is more clinical and decisive in the transfer market as seen in her early deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
The 45-year-old Russian, who is Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's most trusted aide, can use Woodward's tactic while dealing with Leverkusen.
German transfer expert Jan Aage Fjortoft believes Leverkusen will have to sell three players this summer because they missed out on Champions League football.
Alternatively, they can allow Havertz to complete a move to Stamford Bridge to solve their financial issues.
Chelsea are not willing to pay more than £70million for Havertz - which is £20m less than the Bundesliga club are demanding.
But if Granovskaia plays the waiting game there appears to be a strong chance a compromise may be reached.
The versatile midfielder may have played his final game for Leverkusen last night as they lost to Inter Milan in the Europa League quarter-finals.
Leverkusen have always insisted they will not let the 21-year-old leave until their European campaign came to an end.
But now their season is completed Chelsea have the perfect opportunity to strike.
