STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Data posted Friday on the NYPD’s website shows stop and frisks across the city increased 22% in 2019, compared to the prior year.
Officers conducted 13,459 stop-and-frisks in 2019, compared to 11,008 in 2018, according to a New York Daily News report.
A federal judge in 2013 ruled the tactic was being carried out in an unconstitutional way, often targeting minorities.
The data was posted last week unannounced.
To put the 2019 data in perspective, those numbers represented a 92% drop from nearly 192,000 stops in 2013.
