What did Guardiola say?
He said: “I decided the decision, to have quality players. Gundogan played many years in this position.
“To have speed, to find the small players, the quality, the brilliant players, inside, in the middle and between the lines.
“This was the decision.”
Speaking to BT Sport, he added: “It has been an exceptional season for us. It was a tight game. We had chances.
“We were brilliant in the second half, we were brave and we could not convert the chances as they were so strong. The players were exceptional. We come back maybe one day again!
“I did what I thought was the best decision (on his team selection).”
How disappointing is this defeat to Guardiola?
It is a crushing blow. It is just the second final he has lost in his managerial career. He has also not been able to lead City to the Champions League since taking over the club.
But he will hope to do so in the future. This was City's first Champions League final ever and still the closest they have come to the trophy.
What happened in the game?
Chelsea were the better side in the first-half and went ahead through Kai Havertz just before the break.
City failed to recover in the second-half and were held to just one shot on target all game.
