No-hitters have come at a fevered pitch in 2021, with a new pitcher crafting a gem each of the past two nights in Major League Baseball. And while none of the 22 starters from Thursday's MLB DFS player pool are included in that no-hitter binge, the potential certainly exists for another no-no to come out of the 11-game schedule. The record for no-hitters thrown in a season is seven, a number that has been recorded four times in MLB history: 1990, 1991, 2012 and 2015.
Can a pitcher like Boston's Nick Pivetta, who searches to tie for the MLB lead with his sixth victory of the season, notch that seventh no-hitter when the Red Sox face the Blue Jays? Or will Toronto's Steven Matz (5-2, 4.29 ERA) be the star of that AL East matchup? Before locking in any MLB DFS picks for Thursday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book "Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune" as a top MLB DFS player, McClure's proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.
On Wednesday, McClure recommended Nationals outfielder Juan Soto as one of his top picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Soto went 3-for-5 with a solo home run on his way to over 31 points on FanDuel and returning almost 9x on investment. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on Thursday, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks. Head to SportsLine now to see them.
McClure's top MLB DFS picks for May 20, 2021
One of McClure's top MLB DFS picks for Thursday is Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts at $5,700 on DraftKings and $3,600 on FanDuel. Bogaerts is hitting .346 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs. Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with a run scored Wednesday against Toronto.
Bogaerts has also delivered 13 doubles and 25 runs scored this season, and perhaps his only demerit comes from 30 strikeouts against 13 walks. Bogaerts is slashing .346/.402/.597/1.000 so far in 2021, all of which would be career highs. Bogaerts has gone 1-for-3 in his career against Matz, Toronto's Thursday starter, and McClure expects an even better performance for your MLB DFS lineups.
Part of McClure's optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna at $6,100 on DraftKings and $4,400 on FanDuel. Acuna is hitting .286 with 13 homers and 25 RBIs this season. He went 1-for-3 with a solo homer Wednesday against the Mets.
Acuna is second in the majors in homers, and is projected to swat 49 this season, which would surpass his 41 home run effort in 2019. Acuna's slash line is impressive in 2021, putting together a .286/.389/.629/1.018 line -- all of which would be career highs. Acuna homered against Pirates starter Wil Crowe earlier this season, a power move McClure remembers and figures to see again Thursday.
How to set your MLB DFS lineups for May 20, 2021
McClure is also targeting an undervalued player who is set to explode for huge numbers on Thursday. The stars are aligning for him to return tournament-winning value and he comes at a price that won't break the bank. You can only see who it is here.
