The Kobe Bryant stories will never end. A year after the tragic passing of the Los Angeles Lakers legend, Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal shared an amusing anecdote about Kobe’s bizarre tactic to get the ball.
Kobe famously gave himself the nickname Black Mamba, noting that the “length, snake, the bite, the temperament” fit his persona. But in a recent revelation by Beal, Kobe actually behaved like a snake on the court (via Mike Deprisco of NBC Sports).
“He hissed, like an actual snake. Whenever he wanted the ball, he’d make a hissing sound and it threw me all the way off, like I didn’t know that was a thing until somebody would literally wide open and passed up their shot to throw it to him. If that’s all you gotta do to get the ball I might put that into my repertoire.”
It’s another interesting story about Kobe’s bizarre strategies. But basing on Beal’s reaction, perhaps it was really effective in distracting the opponent.
Much like Beal, who currently leads the NBA in scoring with a career-high 34.5 points per game, Kobe was almost unstoppable once he gets his groove. He will forever be remembered as arguably the most well-rounded offensive player in NBA history.
Beal has admitted that Kobe was like his Michael Jordan growing up. Kobe made such a huge impact on his life and said it was surreal to play against him. He was caught on camera shedding tears on the bench the day the five-time NBA champion died from the horrible helicopter crash.
Bradley Beal is sure carrying on Kobe Bryant’s legacy with the way he’s been playing this season—even without hissing.
