The key objectives of the panel discussion at the Digital Health Week are:
- To discuss the objectives of the Global Strategy and recognize the catalytic potential for those to coordinate at the country- and global-level to advance the contributions of digital health to the achievement of health goals.
- To consider the role of ongoing efforts, and benefits for various constituencies, namely, governments, technology, the private sector, the academic sector, implementation partners, and communities of practice, in the implementation of the Global Strategy.
Background
The Global Strategy on Digital Health adopted in 2020 by the World Health Assembly, presents a roadmap of concrete actions to leverage the foundational and cutting-edge developments in digital health, and catalyse their use among member states in order to improve health outcomes.
WHO’s strategic vision is for digital health to be supportive of equitable and universal access to quality person-centric health services. Digital health can address longstanding health systems weaknesses, and bring increased efficiency and quality of care, enhancing their ability to deliver effective coverage of essential services, to all.
The high ideals of universal health coverage are challenging to attain, especially for low- and middle-income countries. The purpose of WHO’s Global Strategy on Digital Health is to support all countries in strengthening their health systems using digital health technologies and to achieve the vision of health for all. The Strategy is designed to be fit for purpose and for use by all Member States, including those with limited access to digital technologies, goods and services.
