The NFL season may only have a few weeks remaining in the regular season but that hasn’t stopped DraftKings from introducing a new format! Snake Draft Showdown is now open and ready for you to dive into, and Monday night’s contest features a matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
If you’ve ever played season-long fantasy before, you’re likely familiar with how a snake draft works. In short, for these Showdown contests, once the allotted number of entries are filled in a contest, the draft will begin one minute later. The entrants are assigned a random draft order and will commence in that order. The player with the first pick gets dibs on everyone while the player with the last pick will get a double pick, as it’ll end the first round and thus begin the second.

Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, Buffalo Bills
Snake Showdown Rank: 4th and 5th
The Patriots are ranked dead-last in rush defense DVOA. They have faced the 10th-most rushing attempts, are allowing 4.6 yards per carry (24th), and have given up 113 rushing first downs (25th).
When these two teams met back in Week 8, Singletary rushed 14 times for 86 yards, while Moss carried 14 times for 81 yards and scored two touchdowns. Josh Allen only threw 18 passes while rushing 10 times for 23 yards and a touchdown himself.
DK Sportsbook has the Bills favored by seven points on the road, so the game script should be in their favor. With the Patriots rushing at the second-highest percentage in the NFL, a replay of the Week 8 run-fest could be in the works once again.
Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots
Snake Showdown Rank: 6th
The Patriots want to run until the air is full of dust. Isn’t that bad for the environment? Maybe the strategy is to produce a fog-like layer to make their aerial attack more stealthy. I respect Bill Belichick unearthing any edge possible.
The boundary cornerbacks for the Bills, Levi Wallace and Tre’Davious White, are very good. While slot corner Taron Johnson is no slouch, he is the weakest of the bunch. This matches up well for Cam Newton and Meyers.
If we break down the field into sections, Newton’s second-best passer rating is 10-20 yards in the middle of the field, which happens to be where Meyers runs most of his routes. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? It doesn’t matter. Since Week 7, Meyers has led all receivers with 67 total targets and has had three games with 10 or more targets.
Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills
Snake Showdown Rank: 1st
The Patriots pass defense took a big blow when Stephon Gilmore suffered a season-ending quad injury. They still have J. C. Jackson — who has been lights out allowing a passer rating of only 52 and intercepting eight passes — but Jason McCourty hasn’t been great. He’s allowed three touchdowns and a passer rating of 134.5 in 337 coverage snaps.
Diggs is the alpha of the Bills receiving group, as the 149 targets attest, so he is going to get his regardless. He also runs about a third of his routes from each position on the field, so it’s difficult for defensive coordinators to hone in on him, but we know that Belichick always tries to neutralize the No. 1 option.
Could he shadow Diggs with Jackson or will he put McCourty on him with safety help? We just don’t know, but there’s a good possibility that Belichick schemes something up, especially since Diggs caught six-of-nine targets for 92 yards in the prior meeting, with no other Bills receiver getting more than two looks.
Damien Harris, Sony Michel and James White, New England Patriots
Snake Showdown Rank: 3rd, 7th, and 8th
The Bills can be run on. They’ve allowed 4.6 yards per carry and 18 rushing touchdowns (24th). The unit has also allowed 114 rushing first downs, the sixth-most in the NFL. In that Week 8 game, Harris rushed 16 times for 102 yards and a touchdown, so the matchup is a good one.
There’s tons of risk, though. The Bills could light up the Patriots defense, forcing the Patriots to pop their head out from the shell. If that scenario plays out, then James White would likely see elevated snaps. On the season, the Bills have allowed the 10th-fewest running back receptions, so not an ideal situation for White. Harris has been limited in practice all week due to an ankle injury, while Michel didn’t play in that Week 8 game. If both play, they could neuter any upside for either.
If deciding to draft a Patriots running back, have fun.
Dalton Keene and Devin Asiasi, New England Patriots
Snake Showdown Rank: 19th and 21st
This is gross because the Patriots don’t throw the ball often and when they do, it’s rarely to the tight end position. On the season, the entire group has 26 targets! That’s insane.
That said, the Bills are fourth-most generous to the tight end position, as they’ve allowed 83 receptions for 901 yards and eight touchdowns. If the Bills do score a bunch of points, then the Pats would have to throw. One of these guys could luck into a touchdown.
