Eklund - The PTO as a Negotiation Tactic - Hockeybuzz.com

Mike Hoffman was almost signed a few times now... before Steen retired. Yesterday, Hoffman signed a PTO with St Louis... a PTO for a player who scores at Hoffman’s pace? Yup. 2020 has one more fun new paradigm.

The reality here is Hoffman had options on a one-year deal elsewhere and the Blues know this. The other reality is Hoffman is holding out for a particular team willing to go more
Years IF they can get free up some space. There are a few other teams who may go three years but are being extra conservative and slow to decide.

Hoffman would play in St Louis and the Blues could likely go multiple years, but I dont believe they are the closest to signing Hoffman. I believe Hoffman is making a smart play here and showing the teams who are being slow to the trigger its time to step up. And soon.

The Blues Camp doesn’t start until 2021. I will be very surprised if Hoffman actually is in that camp on a PTO. The Blues will ACTUALLY sign him before then or someone else will...but then again, it is 2020 until then!

More to come.
