Fantasy Baseball Picks: Braves vs. Dodgers DraftKings MLB DFS Showdown Strategy for October 18 - DraftKings Nation

ersamoyor.blogspot.com

It all comes down to this.

Our second Game 7 in the last 24 hours as the Dodgers have staved off elimination and made this series a winner-take-all game. It’s an unlikely pitching matchup that you likely never would have predicted as Ian Anderson takes on Tony Gonsolin. Let’s take a look at this game and help you build those showdown lineups.

Captain’s Picks

Editor’s Note: Dustin May will start Game 7 vs. the Braves.

Tony Gonsolin ($15,900 CP) — If we’re being fair, both of these starting pitchers are wild cards coming into this game. While I think Ian Anderson ($17,100) could out-pitch Gonsolin, I do like the discount on Gonsolin, and he has the better strikeout upside. For as good as the Braves are against righties, they also had a 23.2% K%, which ended up around league average. While that’s not a number I would go out of my way to target, the Dodgers had one of the lowest in the league at 20.2%. Gonsolin had a tough game against the Braves already this series, but he somewhat salvaged his fantasy total by striking out seven. If Gonsolin can right the ship here, he would be primed for a potential huge fantasy point total.

Corey Seager ($14,700 CP) — Seager is one of the hottest hitters not just in this series but in the playoffs since they began. He’s averaging a massive 15.4 DKFP in his last 10 games with six home runs, four doubles and 16 RBI. Neither of these pitchers necessarily have a split you want to target against, and Anderson pitched well against lefties with a .201 wOBA and a 1.75 FIP. With that in mind, I have no problem with taking a hitter like Seager, who against righties, had a .416 wOBA and a .301 ISO.

Other to consider: Ian Anderson ($17,100)

Value Plays

Dansby Swanson ($7,400) —Swanson has had himself quite a series so far against the Dodgers. Entering this game, he’s posted double-digit fantasy points in three of them and is averaging 9.6 DKFP in the series. With his spot lower in the order, Swanson doesn’t nearly draw the type of attention he should for someone who is hitting as well as he has. Swanson was much better against righties during the regular season, posting a .373 wOBA and a .216 ISO.

Joc Pederson ($6,000) — If you’re hoping for some cheap power, Pederson is your guy. He should draw the start with the righty Anderson on the mound, as Pederson will almost always sit against lefties. Only one of six hits have gone for extra bases, but it was a big fly, as he was a big contributor in the Dodgers’ 15-3 win. He is a candidate to sit later in the game if a lefty reliever comes in so you do have some risk to deal with but this is also a player who had a .223 ISO against righties.

Nick Markakis ($5,400) — I don’t love Markakis but he should draw the start tonight in the lower half of the Braves lineup. To his credit, he has been showing some life in this series, and is averaging 5.0 DKFP in the five games he’s played in. Believe me, I get it, that’s not much at all, but he does have two extra base hits of the four hits he has. If anything, he’s going to help you fit in some of the more expensive plays you want to jam in, and it’s better than trying to guess which reliever a team is going to play.

Fades

Max Muncy ($9,000) — This is a tough game to find some of the more expensive players to fade. I think Muncy is the right one in this category. As I mentioned, Anderson was very good against lefties, and while I’m ok with playing Seager, it’s more of a situation where Seager is simply locked in right now. Muncy is very expensive for his boom-or-bust bat. We can easily get some of the power for cheaper with players like Marcell Ozuna ($8,400), Will Smith ($7,800) and Travis d’Arnaud ($7,600).

The Outcome

This is going to be a very tight game. Hooks are shorter than usual and if either starting pitcher shows any sign of trouble, they’ll be out early. With that said, we have two pitchers that both of pitched well throughout year, albeit some blips on the radar. I think the Braves are able to squeak out the win and head to the World Series, although I’ve already said this before in this article.

Final Score: Braves 5, Dodgers 4
