Team Liquid To Host Official Teamfight Tactics Qualifier - The Esports Observer

Team Liquid has partnered with Riot Games to host a qualifier event in the Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship circuit. The event will be presented by Jersey Mike’s Subs, which renewed its partnership with Team Liquidin January as part of a new three-year deal. Last year, the sandwich chain also sponsored a Super Smash Bros. tournament hosted by Team Liquid pro Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma .

The Teamfight Tactics Liquid Galaxy Qualifier will allow more than 2,000 participants the opportunity to compete for two seats in the North America and Oceania regional finals – the last stage of Riot’s global TFT circuit before its $200K USD championship event. Details of this global structure were revealed last month, with Riot stating that it would partner with various organizations and tournament operators to facilitate each region’s qualification process.

It is uncommon for esports teams to serve as official tournament organizers in a publisher-run ecosystem. However, Team Liquid and other team brands such as 100 Thieves and Panda Global have been hosting numerous online tournaments across various games in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

Team Liquid in particular has hosted multiple VALORANT tournaments including a weekly series, as well as two recent online Super Smash Bros. events. These included the Soaked Series Invitational, which drew in over 4,000 registrations and offered a $10K prize for first place, as well as The Box, hosted by Debiedma and National Football League player Le’Veon Bell, which had more than 8,000 entrants. The company also brought back its TeamLiquid StarLeague StarCraft II competition brand in late April, following an eight year hiatus.

Team Liquid has an existing long-term partnership in place with Riot Games as one of the 10 teams participating in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS). The organization has signed multiple Teamfight Tactics streamers and competitors to its roster including former League of Legends pro Brandon “Saintvicious” DiMarco.

Team Liquid told The Esports Observer that its TFT players will be allowed to participate in its series, but will not be able to qualify for the next tier of competition through this event.
