Liverpool could repeat cut-price Mohamed Salah transfer tactic with £52m Man Utd target - Express

Liverpool could secure the signing of Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo at a cut-price following the coronavirus crisis, according to Italian reports. The midfielder has been the subject of interest from both Manchester United and Tottenham in recent transfer windows and now he has been linked with a surprise move to Anfield.

Zaniolo has been sidelined since January after damaging his ACL against Juventus as Italy boss Roberto Mancini came to watch him in action.

But following the suspension of Serie A in March, the midfielder's injury lay-off will not be as bad as first feared.

The cruciate injury has not put off his admirers either and Roma's hand may be forced.

According to Rome-based newspaper Il Tempo, the Italian giants could be forced to sell their best players this summer in the wake of the virus.

It's something they have already done in the past when signing Mohamed Salah.

Roma were facing a financial crisis and had to offload the Egyptian to raise funds.

Liverpool got him for a total of £38m in 2017, a fee that looked a bargain after just several months back in the Premier League.

Since Salah swapped Roma for Liverpool, there had been talk in the Italian capital that the winger forced his way out of the Stadio Olimpico.

Those claims have since been dismissed by club legend Totti, who was close with Salah during his spell with the Giallorossi.

Totti said during an Instagram live: "He [Salah] did not abandon us [Roma].

"At that time the company was in crisis. It was not he who left, let's clarify things."

A year later, Alisson would follow Salah to Liverpool for £66million.

The relationship between the two clubs remains strong and it could be exercised again in the coming months in the case of Zaniolo and Dejan Lovren, who is attracting interest from Roma.
