FSU football has the No. 14 recruiting class nationally with 15 early signees and one commit who remains unsigned in Antavious Woody.

They also have four-star edge rusher Dante Anderson committed as a preferred walk-on. I wouldn’t expect Woody to sign with FSU at this point, and we’re continuing to see players from the roster get familiar with the transfer portal.

I’ve lost count of how many players have left for the portal, but each player leaving opens up a scholarship for someone else to join the program. The NCAA passed a one-time rule that could allow teams to sign up to 32 players in this recruiting cycle, provided they don’t go over the 85 scholarship limit.

Mike Norvell indicated they would likely take a full class in his Early Signing Day press conference. That means FSU football could add another 17 players in this class.

If Woody signs and Anderson is put on scholarship, that would leave 15 slots left. FSU has a lot of pressing needs that need addressing on the roster.

The failure to sign any wide receivers and only one linebacker are immediate needs. They added a big piece Sunday night in receiver Mycah Pittman. They also need to take another defensive end and offensive lineman. I think they need to take another quarterback and running back, now that Jashaun Corbin declared for the NFL Draft.

Here’s a potential recruiting strategy they can use to finish out the class strong while meeting roster needs.
