In the photographs held up by protesters across Turkey, Deniz Poyraz looks like any other young woman from Izmir, her home city on the Aegean coast. Her long hair is bleached to honey-blonde, her clothes are fashionable and her make-up immaculate. In some photos, she holds two fingers up in a victory sign.
To the man who shot her dead, however, she was a terrorist collaborator and a threat to the Turkish nation.
Onur Gencer, who stormed the Izmir offices of the HDP, the Kurdish-rooted political party where Poyraz, 27, worked as an official, was an ultra-nationalist who had fought as a volunteer alongside Turkmen militias in Syria.
