VALLEJO (BCN)
The Vallejo City Council on Tuesday is expected to adopt a five-year strategy for creating and preserving affordable housing in the city, and for preventing homelessness.
The Vallejo Housing Strategy is the result of a nine-month effort by the Vallejo City Council to prioritize and guide the city's housing programs over the next five years. Its recommendations were developed with input from numerous community members, City Council members, Planning Commissioners, Housing and Development Commissioners, the Vallejo Housing Authority Resident Advisory Board and city staff during 2020.
Among its key recommendations are promoting sustained city leadership and action on housing; preserving existing housing and expand affordability; preventing homelessness and supporting renters facing housing instability and displacement; producing housing affordable to all residents and workers throughout Vallejo; leveraging public lands for housing; and enhancing resident self-sufficiency through training and employment opportunities.
The strategy also recommends a specific set of action steps to be undertaken during 2020 and into 2021 related to each of those six key recommendations.
Tuesday's special meeting begins at 7 p.m., and can be viewed streaming on the city's website (www.cityofvallejo.net/Streaming) or by joining the Zoom webinar at https://ift.tt/311Jw1C.
