Fantasy Basketball Picks: Warriors vs. Rockets DraftKings DFS NBA Showdown Strategy - DraftKings Nation

ersamoyor.blogspot.com

Saturday night’s featured Showdown on DraftKings involves the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors. These were the two best teams in the league very recently, but things have changed for both squads. The Warriors are fighting just to hold on to one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference, while the Rockets are in contention for the worst record in basketball. DraftKings Sportsbook has the Warriors as 8.5-point favorites in this matchup, so they are expected to take care of business at home.

Let’s break down this matchup to help with your Showdown lineups.

(NOTE: All salaries are in the utility spot unless otherwise indicated.)

Captain’s Picks

Stephen Curry ($17,400 CP) – This Curry guy is pretty good, huh? Even though it’s been a down year for the Warriors, Curry remains one of the best players in the league. He’s averaged 29.7 points per game while shooting 47.9% from the field, 40.8% from 3-point range and 92.2% from the free throw line. He’s been an excellent fantasy investment recently, posting at least 49.75 DKFP in five straight games, and he should be able to find success vs. the Rockets. They’ve been below-average in terms of defensive efficiency this season and have also played at the fifth-fastest pace.

Kelly Oubre ($11,100 CP) – If you’re not paying up for Curry, going with Oubre feels like the best alternative. He’s just the ninth-most expensive player in this matchup, which is flat-out disrespectful. He’s scored at least 32.7 DKFP in three straight games, and he’s averaged 0.95 DKFP per minute this season. Oubre has the potential to play more minutes than any player in this contest, which makes him a very appealing option.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Kelly Oubre (wrist) is listed as out for tonight’s game vs. the Rockets.

UTIL Plays

Christian Wood ($9,800) – Wood is my preferred target for the Rockets on today’s slate. His production has been a bit down recently – he’s averaged 1.14 DKFP per minute over the past month – but he’s averaged a robust 1.28 DKFP per minute this season. That’s an elite mark, and he has the potential to do some serious damage vs. the Warriors. They’ve struggled against opposing centers this season, particularly with James Wiseman ($6,600) on the floor.

Kent Bazemore ($4,000) – Bazemore has seen a nice spike in playing time recently. He’s logged at least 26.1 minutes in back-to-back games, and he’s responded with at least 17.25 DKFP in both contests. That includes a game with 27.75 DKFP vs. the Bucks. He has been priced up a bit at $4,000 vs. the Rockets, but he still has plenty of upside at that price tag. Bazemore has averaged 0.87 DKFP per minute this season, so he’s capable of racking up fantasy points quickly when he’s on the court.

Kevon Looney ($2,200) – Looney stands out as the best punt play on the slate at just $2,200. He’s served as the Warriors’ backup center recently, but he’s still seen a handful of minutes each night. He should play between 16-20 minutes vs. the Rockets, and Looney has averaged a respectable 0.82 DKFP per minute this season.

Fades

Jae’Sean Tate ($8,000) – The Rockets are the clear fade candidate on tonight’s slate given the gap in implied team totals, but Tate seems overpriced given his recent production. He’s scored 23.0 DKFP or fewer in each of his past two games, and the fact that he couldn’t return value with John Wall ($9,600) out of the lineup in his last contest is particularly concerning. He saw a few additional shot attempts in that game, and he should return to his usual volume with Wall back in the lineup.

THE OUTCOME

The Rockets have nothing to play for at this point in the season, and they’re actually in a position where losing games is more advantageous than winning. With that in mind, I’m not expecting to see their best effort vs. the Warriors. This game should be exciting – both of these teams rank in the top five in pace – but the Warriors should be able to establish their dominance. Look for a big performance from Curry, and smaller contributions from Oubre and Andrew Wiggins ($8,600) should help the Warriors cruise to a victory.

Final Score: Warriors 131, Rockets 118
