This tactic would not sit well with Newcastle fans vs. Spurs - Newcastle Toons

Newcastle United should NOT park the bus against a mediocre Tottenham side.

Newcastle United secured their Premier League status when they thrashed Bournemouth 4-1 two weeks ago, but things have gone downhill since that game.

After scoring two equalizers to draw 2-2 with West Ham, the Magpies have suffered back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Watford, conceding seven goals in the process.

The loss against Manchester City was expected, but the team had no energy or creativity without Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron. Against Watford, Newcastle United experienced a tale of two halves as careless defending in the second half gifted the Hornets with three points.

The Toon Army is expecting their team to wake up and conclude the season with strong performances. Newcastle United will host Tottenham on Wednesday, and Steve Bruce must instruct his players to take the game to Spurs.

The Magpies are known for parking the bus against top teams, but that tactic will not work on Wednesday, and it would only upset fans even more. Tottenham have been nothing more than a mid-table side this season.

Despite having their key players back in action, Tottenham lack confidence and have forgotten what consistency is. They recently defeated Everton, but only because of an own goal. Their other results include a 0-0 draw against Bournemouth, in which Spurs failed to get any shots on target, and they were also defeated 3-1 by Sheffield United.

That being said, Newcastle United should respect Jose Mourinho’s side because of the talent in their squad, but not by sitting back and inviting the attack for most of the game.

With players like Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Jonjo Shelvey, and Dwight Gayle in top form as of late there is no reason why Bruce should not encourage attacking football.

At an individual level, Bruce needs another major result to overshadow some of the blowouts the team suffered this season. His future is safe with Ashley running the show, but if the takeover is approved, Bruce will need more positive results as part of his audition for next term.
