SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Washington Redskins

If you’re looking for players that have been smashing these Madden simulations, I’m sorry to say this isn’t the game. Dwayne Haskins Jr ($10,800) has the highest DKFP average amongst all the players in this game at 16.4. He’s turned in a couple of really poor performances in two of his last three games, scoring no more than 5.7 DKFP in them. However, he’s still averaging 233 passing yards with 56 touchdowns thrown. With a less than stellar Lions secondary to attack, he’s still someone to consider.

Paul Richardson Jr ($6,400) has the highest DKFP average amongst all the Washington receivers at just 12.4. Not exactly a high bar to clear but that’s been the state of this offense for most of the season. Richardson is seeing 3.4 receptions, 54.8 yards per game and has scored 17 times. If it wasn’t for his touchdowns, he could easily be left on the board but he has some of the most on this team. Trey Quinn ($4,400) continues to be one of my favorite overall plays with how cheap he is. Quinn is seeing 3.4 receptions, 49.2 receiving yards and nine touchdowns scored. He certainly can be silent in these games but we’ve also seen some of his ceiling games, scoring over 20 DKFP on four different occasions. Terry McLaurin ($9,400) is way too expensive for my liking despite being listed as the WR1. He doesn’t get treated as such, averaging just 3.6 receptions, 51 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns scored. Those are easily numbers that could be a WR2 at a much cheaper price. Finally, Jordan Reed ($7,200) is the man getting the volume in this offense, as he’s the only player seeing over four receptions per game. It would be great if he was scoring more but in this offense, beggars can’t be choosers. Reed is my preferred options amongst the group. Chris Thompson ($1,800) is the only running back I’m looking to use. He’s made 71 catches in 33 games with three of his four touchdowns coming through the air.

Detroit Lions

With all the “hype” I just gave the Redskins, you’re probably wondering if the Lions’ have any players worth using to fill out your roster. The good news is, yes, yes they do. The bad news is, they also feel very overpriced. Matt Stafford ($11,000) is the most expensive player in this game and it’s absurd. He’s averaging 214 passing yards with 51 touchdowns thrown and six interceptions. To be fair, I don’t know who exactly I would make the most expensive player in this game but it wouldn’t be Stafford. Either way, we rarely see him under double-digit fantasy points, something we can’t say about Haskins.

Marvin Jones Jr ($8,600) is the WR2 in this offense that gets treated like the WR1. Entering this game, he’s averaging 4.1 receptions, 49.7 yards while scoring 15 times. He feels like a much safer play than Kenny Golladay ($9,600), who is the WR1 and is $1,000 more expensive. Golladay hasn’t exactly been bad but for nearly $10K, his 3.7 receptions, 52.8 yards and 13 touchdowns scored don’t exactly cut it. If anything, if the roles and salary were reversed for these guys, it would make more sense. Nonetheless, Jones is the preferred option at receiver for me. TJ Hockenson ($6,800) is someone who is priced correctly, in my opinion. As the TE1, he’s seeing four receptions, 49.2 yards and 10 touchdowns scored. This is a great spot for him and he’s reached over 25 DKFP in two of his last three games. He’s also been extremely active in the red zone as of late, leading me to locking him in my lineup. Danny Amendola ($5,000) will likely draw low ownership as he’s set at an odd salary. While he doesn’t have the ceiling of someone like Quinn, Amendola does occasionally get involved in this offense, averaging 2.7 receptions, 34 receiving yards and seven touchdowns scored. Finally, JD McKissic ($4,200) is your passing down back to target, although his salary has really shot up as of late. Once someone who was under $3K to target, McKissic is starting to get a bit pricey for my liking. We’re not exactly at that point yet but it’s getting close. He’s averaging 40 scrimmage yards per game with five touchdowns scored. He should be fairly involved in this spot.

The Outcome

Not a ton of players I’m looking to get in my captain spot, as this game struggles for big playmakers. With the choices we’re giving, I like the idea of using either Marvin Jones Jr ($12,900) or TJ Hockenson ($10,200) in the captain spot. I think both see enough volume to warrant a captain pick but Jones is by far the safer and superior option. I sense the ownership will follow as well. If you want to go off the board and grab someone with low ownership from Washington, Trey Quinn ($6,600) would be the guy for me.

Final Score: Redskins 17 Lions 21
